| - What would our trip to Toronto have been without this delightful nook of deliciousness?? Who is awesome enough to serve breakfast until 5pm??? And they make gluten-free waffles!?!!?? Not to mention, the best, most AUTHENTIC Americano I've had outside Italy!!!!
This little place is a gem. Nestled amongst a residential neighborhood (which seems to be a theme in Toronto, one that I love ps), you feel like you've really come to a secret local's place. I love the open "bar" concept where food is prepared insight at a bar-like counter. And the ample seating in the front patio is perfect for a late afternoon meal. But even if you sit inside, the floor to ceiling window that fully opens makes you feel like you're outside anyway, minus the wind messing up ya hair of course.
The Americano. It came in a double espresso cup, roughly 4oz, just as it should be served and is served across the world except for the US -_- I am so tired of getting a 24oz watered down cup of bitter nasty because a cafe owner failed to google 'how to make an americano'. Come on people. But Starving Artist does it right, and they do it deliciously. Coffee has an amazing taste and they know how to get that beautiful, creamy froth out of their espresso. If you love coffee, it's a must here. And even if you don't, now's your chance to start!
The food. We went here twice and since I'm not gluten-free, the first time we went I ordered regular wheat waffles and my girlfriend, who is, got the gluten-free. The second time, we wanted to share a savory and sweet so I got GF waffles as well. And I can honestly say, I preferred the GF to the wheat! I found them to actually be airier, lighter and crispier on the outside than the regular. And after eating half an order piled with eggs and a superb hollandaise, and half an order with Nutella and fruit, I appreciated not feeling weighed down by the waffles themselves. But either way, you honestly can't go wrong. And did I mention, they serve breakfast till 5?? We walked in unknowingly at 4:30 and were handed a breakfast menu to our great delight. How perfect was that?! Went back the very next day.
