  • I've been in Phoenix for about 3 years and before coming to David Frank I had my color/cut done at another salon and while that person was really nice, we were never quite on the same page about my hair. He didn't know standard celebrity hair references (and I'm not even that into fashion but if a client cites Michelle Williams as a hair reference it was disappointing to get a blank stare in return). I know it's just hair so as superficial as it sounds I stopped looking forward to my appointments and didn't feel great when I left. I needed to change. I searched online for stylists who specialized in pixie cuts - hard to find in Phoenix because everyone seems to have long layered balayage-d hair. I've had my fine hair short for a few years now and when I lived in Los Angeles had super-short pixie cuts stylists loved to do. I found a blog post where Frank Hathaway talks about his love for short/pixie haircuts so I booked an appointment with him at David Frank Salon. During my very first appointment he completely got it; I barely had to say anything and he gave me the cutest, feminine, most perfect pixie cut for my hair and face. Pixies are hard to get right if you're a stylist who doesn't love them. He does and is a true artist. The next appointment I included color with David. I loved the blonde he did and for my third appointment I just asked him what he wanted to do and ended up with a really flattering, cool silver-blonde that complemented and was complemented by Frank's cut. Cassidy does a great wash and the toner part of the color - she's so much fun to chat with while you're sitting/lying in the washing sink for so long. I'm usually shy but everyone is friendly and kind. Another plus: David Frank's shampoo/wash set up is the most comfortable I've ever experienced. I think it's the chairs because they lay almost flat so you don't feel a hard bowl on the back of your neck, just cushion. (I'm also just a little over 5 feet tall so sink set ups are probably more awkward for me than for normal-heighted people!) It's unique. I keep coming back because I'm the type of person who loves to put myself into the hands of talented experts and come out with something I could never truly envision or do myself (in the past out of frustration I have taken scissors to my own hair; not a good look - this is not one of my talents). I look forward to my next appointment!
