  • Has the time come where I am so jaded from such amazing restaurant experiences that I set my hopes too high when going to other high end restaurants? The Barrymore was chosen from a Yelp search while spending a couple nights in Vegas for my brother's birthday. I had reserved a table online and was easily able to push the time back an hour and a half when we realized we would be late (time flies when you're gambling...I mean...having fun). When we arrived at the hotel we noticed that the hotel like most other Yelpers have mentioned on the reviews is quite boring and weird. It was really quiet that you almost wouldn't expect to have a nice steakhouse inside and the woman at the front desk just looked as us when we walked in. When you're in an empty lobby and there's only one other person, usually a "Hello" or "Welcome" is nice. Anyways, we walked into the restaurant and were greeted by a very nice gentleman who showed us to our booth. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Thursday night but I know it was 9pm so I didn't think much of it. There was one giant table finishing up but when they left we were the only ones inside. The interior of the steakhouse is beautiful. Very old classic Vegas with leather booths, smoked mirrors on the walls, just the right amount of dim lighting and of course a nice full bar. We were greeted by our server who was nice but almost seemed annoyed that we were there. I know we must have been the last table but why were we able to make reservations if they didn't want anyone there? When he talked to us he talked very fast and kept looking away like he wanted to be somewhere else. We didn't feel engaged, more so rushed as we tried to ask some questions about the menu. For drinks we saw there was a check in offer for a free glass of house wine with a purchase of 25$. The four of us asked to use our offers and while the wine was tasty, I felt like as soon as we did that they didn't think of us as high paying customers anymore. The food, of course, was cooked well and tasted great. The steak is more on the rare side when you order medium rare but the portions are large and the sides are very rich. We tried the bacon and lobster corn, risotto and Brussels sprout side dishes. All were cooked perfectly and added a great richness to our New York steaks and Ribeye. We had also enjoyed the grilled octopus ceviche with mango but the octopus was definitely not in ceviche form, more like three grilled tentacles with a mango salsa and a couple plantain chips. The octopus was cooked well and you are also served a variety of breads in a basket. Most were very dry but probably because it was the end of the night. We were thankful for the chocolate dessert brought out complimentary for my brother's birthday with a candle on top. We really appreciated the gesture but that cake was brought out by the man from the front desk who had checked on us during out meal with a warm smile on his face - something we hadn't felt from out waiter. We grabbed the check and headed out of the place without much to say about the experience. Even though it wasn't a bad dinner, unfortunately the Barrymore most likely won't be on our list of places to come back to the next time we are in Las Vegas.
