| - This is my favorite hotel in Downtown Las Vegas because of all of the happy memories I have made with my mom, sister, aunties, and friends!
I usually stay at this hotel with mom and aunties in April and October. The tradition first started when Aunty Mary lost her husand and went to Vegas with Aunty Alice. When Aunty Lily lost her husband, she joined Mary & Alice, and got my mom to be her roommate. When Alice passed away, I took her place and became mom's roommate. Lily got promoted to be Mary's roommate. Now that Mary passed this year, I must constantly look for a roommate since mom & Lily are roommates. Any volunteers??
The reason for the 4 stars is because of the two traumatic events that happened over the past ten years. The first is when Aunty Mary's purse was stolen:
Mom, Lily & I had gone shopping as usual, and left Aunty Mary to rack up her comps. When we returned from shopping, we could not find Mary. She had been in the Office, filling out paperwork and reporting her incident to Security. It turned out that after Mary cashed out, someone followed her to the restroom and while she was "sitting down" with her pants around her ankles, the thief reached over the bathroom stall door and took her purse full of cash, ID card, credit cards, etc. It was a mess. It was so hard for her to go through security at the airport EVERY time after that incident. The hotel had to write a letter for her to present at the airport because she had no ID. It was horrible!
The second reason for the 4 stars is when my Hello Kitty luggage was almost stolen:
If you go with the Vacations Hawaii package, the porters will pull your luggage from your room and leave the luggage on the sidewalk for you to identify. The porter then places your luggage on the bus to the airport. Luckily, I was paying attention and I saw a cute Hello Kitty suitcase being pulled down the sidewalk by a guy that didn't match the bag. I have this radar vision that can spot Hello Kitty things a mile away, so I pointed out to mom & Aunty Lily that the man with dark glasses and black hat had a luggage that looked like mine! What a coincidence! When I looked closer, I realized it was MY SUITCASE that he was taking, so I yelled and chased after him! I couldn't understand why no one was helping me! At least at work, when staff yell and chase after a patient, we usually have backup and help each other out... but, no! I was face to face with a thug...alone! Thanks a lot, hotel staff or Vacations Hawaii escorts, for not watching my suitcase which you took from my room and were not watching! All of the other Vacations Hawaii travellers were watching, but no one came forward to assist...wow, great! That's why I tell my friends not to get me mad, because I had to handle this criminal by myself. Eventually, I got my Hello Kitty bag back! I almost killed the guy! Nah - that's how I felt, but nothing physical happened. Fortunately for him, I do not know how to swear, so I was REALLY LOUD and ANGRY TO THE MAX and got my suitcase back! Phew! He knew he'd lose against a raging Chinese woman! I wrote a letter of complaint, but nothing happened. They made some excuse about someone not showing up for work, so they were one staff short. They also said that my suitcase wasn't stolen anyway. Yeah! Really!
On the good side, when I was trying to buy a house last year, my realtor said that he had to get my signature on some forms. David Lebby's secretary, Sandy Grass, was so nice to let me use her computer, printer, & fax machine! The woman at the Registration Desk was telling me to use the kiosk, but at $1.50 a page, and 35 pages of contract, I asked to speak to her manager. That was just ridiculous! At least Sandy was understanding and patient as I signed all of the documents in her office and faxed everything back to Honolulu! The Cal helped me get my current home! Yay!
Another benefit about the Cal is that it's small. Mom & aunties didn't get lost. They knew where everything is: "the Buddha", Market Street Cafe, the Player's Club, the cashier, how to use the walkway to get to Main St. Station Casino, etc. It's a good place for our kupuna because they don't have to walk so far. They usually would listen to Aunty Mary's request to stay near the elevator and have adjoining rooms.
The rooms are clean & simple. There are refrigerators, ironing boards, clock radios, & hair dryers available. There are NO coffee makers. The vending machine is in the hallway next to the ice machine.
The parking garage is decent with free parking if you are a guest or have a Sapphire card. If you are there to just eat or play, there is free parking for 4 hours. The valet is friendly, fast, & efficient.
The staff are really nice: the cashiers, dealers, house keeping, Bell Desk, etc. They all seem to adhere to their motto of "Aloha Spoken Here". That's why my aunts, friends, sisters, mom & I will remain loyal customers.
