The Black Bull is one of Toronto's oldest continuously operating taverns.
THE GOOD: The gigantic patio that usurps the northeast corner of Queen and Soho is practically a Queen West landmark in itself. Be it hanging out with friends over a few pints, or people-watching the bustling Queen Street crowd, this is one heck of a place to soak in the sun and downtown sights, no doubt about it.
THE BAD: Service can be slow and sloppy. The food here stinks. Sure it's all typical bar food, but I have tasted better pub fare from a campus dive bar. Their perogies and fries are nothing to rave about--they taste like frozen store-bought. Also, they do not do beer pitchers. Like, c'mon!
THE UGLY: Do not under any circumstance use their pool table they have inside. Not only do they not have enough pool cues, but also because a couple balls have a tendency to get stuck. Most importantly, the table is placed terribly smack in the middle of a critical circulation path--ie., I guarantee you will be fucking annoyed after having to constantly watch out for patrons using their grimy washrooms and bar staff running in and out of the kitchen for food, all the while trying to make a shot.
{TTC: the 501 to Soho/Peter. Also there's an equally large pay parking lot across the street from the patio.}
