| - This is my second year going to Night It Up and both times I visited twice. Since it's supposed to resemble an asian night market, people should try to get out and experience it at night. But, brace yourselves as it will be packed and a lot of long lines. Saturday or Sunday noon to 4 or 5 pm is better for avoiding all the lines, it's about 1/3 amount of people, but you'll have to deal with the heat.
This year I went on the Friday evening and Sunday early afternoon. I usually go with my family or friends with small kids so we usually have a plan of attack. We came prepared with a picnic blanket as there are no seating at this event, except for the curb. We check out each aisle for the goods, buy what we want, then regroup at the grass area for a picnic. Once everyone is fed, we take turns diving in to the crowd for more treats.
This year was much better than last year in terms of food and entertainment. There were far less Stinky Tofu and Takoyaki stalls this year so I was able to try a variety of food.
We had: (between the two days)
- Shrimp on cane sugar & pork skewer ($1.50 each)
Both were really tasty!
- Shrimp taco and Octupus taco ($3 each)
Shrimp was okay, octupus tasted like shoes
- Beaver tail bites ($6.20)
Meh, tried it, no need to get it again
- Okonomiyaki ($9 for a large)
Long wait but very big and filling
- Grilled squid (3 for $10)
Long line up, but worth it! Yum!
- Taiyaki and waffle dogs (2 for $5 and 2 for $3)
This was good for the kids
- Asian poutines... Lobster & shrimp ($8), Butter chicken ($6), Korean pulled pork ($6)
Pork was the best taste out of the 3
- Buster's Sea Cove lobster poutine ($18)
It was just okay for me... It's a big portion, about the siaze of 3-4 of the asian poutines, but the price is still a bit high
- Filipino pork bbq and a mango lemonade ($2 each)
Very good! I want back to get more for home :)
Night it Up only comes but once a year, so I'm definitely coming back next year! Bring lots of cash!
