| - It's about a 3.5, but it can be a 4 if you get a decent packaged rate.
Seeing it from the air or from the Strip, it is one messed up eyesore and you might dismiss it. It is amazing that a place that looks like the over-sized home of Bozo the clown passed the planning or design guidelines and is found on one of the more coveted corners in Las Vegas. However, once you're inside, you can cool your jets a little. It isn't as bad as the exterior might suggest.
The last time at the Excalibur, I was in one of the upgraded standard rooms and it was very tasteful, with nothing suggesting the stupid Excalibur magic castle theme. The parking is right next to the hotel and one can usually get lucky and snag a close- in spot. The health club is top notch, again much better than what the hotel exterior might suggest. Even their buffet is good. How is it that a lower price point / major hotel on the Strip has a better buffet than the very presentable Monte Carlo a few properties up the Strip on the same side of Las Vegas Blvd.? I don't know. Finally, the location is at the second best corner on the Strip, after the next one further up at which the Bellagio is found.
So, if you can get past the shock of the schlock, the Excalibur is a decent price/quality ratio hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.
