I had lunch at Gaucho's today. Let's get the cold prickly's out of the way first:
This place is small. There are 6 uncomfortable stools with very limited counter space and it gets really crowded in that cramp space. Not a very good place to go if you're looking for a nice sitdown meal.
It's also pretty expensive as far as a lunch sandwich goes. My sandwich set me back $12.83... No sides, no drink.
Lastly, it's a bit of a hike if you work in town. To get here from town you would be walking past a number of other pretty good and much more comfortable eateries just to get here. And if you planned on take out, your sandwich would be cold by the time you walked back to you desk.
Now on to the "warm fuzzies":
The sandwich I had was unbelievably good! Quite possibly the very best sandwich in the Burg. I got the Carne with ribeye steak. It was a generous serving of real ribeye steak right off of the grill, not some shaved imposter.
I'm a bit shy when it comes to ordering steak when I go out. I like mine well done and most places can't seem to comprehend what "well done" means. This ribeye was grilled to perfection; no pink on the inside, no char on the outside. It was brown all the way through while still retaining its juiciness. Topping the sandwich off was chimmi, caramelized onion & pepper all between a lightly toasted bun. Perfection!!! Well worth every penny I spent on it.
I was lucky enough to snag one of the six stools and enjoy my sandwich as soon as it came off the grill and while it was still warm. If it weren't for the cramped and limited seating I'd give this place a five star rating. Unfortunately the accommodations knocked it down a notch.
*** NOTE (3/12/2015) ***
As Lisa G. mentioned in her review of Goucho's, they are planning on expanding their restaurant to include better seating accommodations. I'm looking forward to the new and improved Goucho's... Thanks for addressing that Lisa!
