  • I haven't been to any East Coast stadiums since I was little, but having been to Dodgers Stadium many times in middle school and been to 5-6 games at the Oakland Coliseum when we lived in the Bay Area, I know a thing or two about what makes a stadium a well-worn, much-loved home for baseball fans. Chase Field is definitely not that kind of place. Why? Well, for starters, it's relatively new. It's a gorgeous and well-maintained work of urban architecture, but it does feel a bit manufactured and lacks a bit of character. The other reason is that the fans just don't care that much. Now, I'm not a die-hard baseball fan, even though I do enjoy the experience of attending games, but it's just not as much fun when you go to a stadium and find that everyone around you is just not that into it. Maybe this will change as Phoenix continues to grow and diversify and the D-backs fan base develops, but for now, Chase Field is just not as exciting as the other stadiums I've been to. One thing I must say in its favor, though - their $5 hot dog is literally the best I've ever had. It was slightly charred and had great flavor. Forget the sushi (which, oddly enough, is served by Panda Express) and the crappy Mexican and stick to the time-tested classic dog. You won't regret it.
