So... we made our reservation significantly in advance via Open Table making note of an Anniversary and a gluten allergy for one guest. We heard positive feedback from friends about this restaurant. Therefore, expectations were elevated. It was a true disappointment just walking in the door. It is enjoyable to know a restaurant is in demand in a busy city on a Saturday night. There were no guests at the bar and it was only about 15-20% full. We were 20 minutes early thinking we would enjoy a cocktail before dinner yet we were seated right away. A friend suggested a specific martini. We asked about it based on the liquor. Our server wasn't familiar and needed to retrieve a cocktail menu as we weren't given one. The beverages weren't served with the garnishes described by friends who dined at the eatery just the evening before. And the glasses were only a third full. The wine list, while huge, has zero selections outside of Italian. I get it that we were at an Italian restaurant, but it seemed limiting. The server didn't seem knowledgeable about pouring the bottle we ordered. She fumbled and never offered the cork. Further, she wanted to rush us through our decisions. On to our appetizer. We always enjoy mussels. This was prepared in a tomato broth. Sadly, the Roma tomatoes were huge making it very awkward to try them. Overall, while they weren't tough, yet there was very little flavor at all. When we asked the manager about the dish including the tomatoes, he got incredibly snotty. We were offered a half glass of Prosecco and an offering from there upcoming fall menu to celebrate our Anniversary. While it looked great, I didn't eat it. Gluten allergy. Clearly stated when the reservation was made. I waited while a sub of Burata and tomatoes was brought. A tough exterior to the cheese and a serious lack of seasoning. Entree. Husband's veal was enjoyable. My steak. Again lacking in seasoning. Spinach purée cold. Romesco had zero punch to it. Asked for another dish. Scallops with risotto. Scallops weren't cleaned properly- gritty. Risotto far too crunchy to be al dente. When we asked to speak to the manager he was nothing short of a prima donna escalating his voice when we raised our concerns. This was truly our worst experience! Thankfully we have found other much better options in CLT. We will NOT return. I actually felt held hostage to some of the worst service with this treatment.
