| - Came here for the Art of Rap concert which featured Naughty By Nature, EPMD, Mobb Deep, Public Enemy, Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel and Scorpio.
First of all parking is almost impossible to find that is relatively nearby. If you are lucky enough, you can find parking on the street but you have to pay at the meters. After parking over at Binions, getting validated, and then walking over to the venue, I noticed there were already parking tickets on a bunch of people's cars.
As I was walking up towards the will call booth to pick up my tix, the smell of weed was in the air. Yup, this was definitely a rap concert. Weed is still illegal in Nevada yet people were smoking joints and I didn't see any cops arresting anybody. Speaking of which they were all mainly at the entrance making sure nobody was packin any kind of weaponry.
Now for the venue. When I first reserved my tix online it said Las Vegas Evens Center. I was like, cool, never been to that place! Then I find out that its an outdoor venue. All the better for the smokers I guess. Anyways this took place on Saturday July 24th starting at 7 pm. The temp at the time was 115. Yes, I said 115. Even when the sun dipped behind the buildings the temp only went down to 110. Good thing I brought my jacket.
So there we were me and my wife standing in the general admission area. For a nice chunk of change you can go to the VIP section closer to the stage. I thought the view there wasn't any better. After about half an hour with just the DJ playing old school rap music, me and the wifey decided to split because we were soaked with sweat and wanted to go before passing out from dehydration. They did have some stands there that sold beer and bottled water. I really wanted to get some water but they were charging 5 bucks just for 1 bottle! So we just took off and went home. So disappointed.
Besides the above mentioned, I would say that about half the people there definitely did not take a shower before going there. If we were gonna pass out it was either from dehydration or the sheer rancid smell of body odor. Secondly, there were different spots around the edges of the fence that you can actually see the stage. So basically you can watch for free. Fail. Lastly, just the fact that you will be standing for 4 hours in triple digit temps is not a good idea. Didn't matter if it was already shaded. We are still talking about 110 degrees!
In closing, if I just happen to find another concert that is scheduled to perform here, it will have to be any other time but the middle of summer just for me to consider coming here. The overall organization of the place is just one total disaster.
