  • This review is for the SEPHORA located inside this JCPenney, On Wednesday November 15th around 8pm. I am currently a rouge member with Sephora (i shop with Sephora frequently as i am a freelance makeup artist in the area. I went to this location to find a couple items that were out of stock at my usual Beachwood mall location, i was shopping with my family and decided to wander off with my 2yr old niece into this location where i was rudely greeted my an African American in her early 20's I'd assume, i continued to look around with my niece who was standing next to me, as kids do (I'm also a mother to a 10yr old and 12yr old) my niece wanders off with me right behind her lol i swatched a few shadows on my hand and showed her how to as well, she's very good with the term gentle since my sons have a bearded dragon whom she adores and plays with. We get to a tester station and she grabs a couple tester wands and i catch it and say no no no which she repeats back to me, the Sephora employee i mentioned above then comes over and says to my niece " no don't touch that" as i grab my niece and apologize try to grab a couple the employee says " i got it!" I was stunned, so i walk away and ask her where can i find tarte? She then points over there front and back, me not knowing where over there was i began to get frustrated, she's then peering over and watching us like a hawk another employee starts "shadowing" us as i begin to feel uncomfortable i walk over to fenty beauty to see if they had the item i initially came in for, my niece touched a bristle of the tester makeup brush the other employee " a Caucasian woman who says she's a manager, looks at my niece and says don't touch that okay it will break, at this point i had, had enough and asked both ladies if they had an issue with me and niece being in there?! I told them i have gotten rude remarks and stares since i walked in there and she said we just don't want anything broken. Mind you I've worked for a high end makeup store for years and understand when customers break testers, throw testers, or even steal testers, however having the customer service in my background i know i can just reprimand every customer for accidents. The companies have procedures set up to remake testers as needed, clearly it's a system these companies are allotted, and doesn't come out of employees pockets it's just the name of the game they want to have the best testers out at all times. I then asked if there was a manager i could speak to and they both said they were management i then told them that i will never shop here again and went into jcp and asked for a store manager i explained the situation to her and she was super apologetic and explained they were not part of management, and she would handle the situation. I waited to leave this review to have time to think about the situation and it just made me sad to think this is what our customer service has come to. I don't think because i spend thousands on makeup a year that I'm entitled to anything however i do expect if you're in customer service it is to service the customer and have them leave with the best experience ever, i understand kids can be frustrating when in a store like that but that was not the case she wasn't running around throwing things on the floor or digging into testers etc, I'm sure they were nervous it could turn into that however when situations like that arose at my counter as the manager it is not our place to reprimand children or the parent it's not good form and puts the company at risk for complaint. To say i will NEVER shop there is an understatement i will tell all my customers and friends to shop at Beachwood where i receive nothing but the best service and my niece is welcome!
