| - No doubt there will be good reviews here for some, but, for many of us, not so much.
A loved one was in this facility for nearly 4 weeks after a truly unnecessary surgery. When healing was not happening, we were all the more convinced that this was a mistake, however, our loved one was given the option w/o the complete picture. Such as the fact that their heart was failing and this surgery was a sure declaration of death. We found this out during the autopsy. Yes, our loved one died.
The death, we understand. It was a risk (the decision for the surgery may have been made, regardless, we will never know). The care giving, never.
There was a wound bag involved and a "nurse" came in to change it. No gloves, no washing of hands. And, when an immediate family member asked the "nurse" to please put on gloves, the "nurse" turned around and very rudely said, "My ring (large diamond) is too big. The relative said, "Then take it off." The "nurse" said, "Do you want to do this yourself!!!" In a loud, extremely caustic tone." The immediate family member spoke up w/o hesitation (she had been a nurse before career change), and said, "No. That's what they pay YOU for!" And, the "nurse" huffily put on some gloves, grumbling the entire time.
Our loved one called us one evening at 1AM stating that the roommate had fallen on the floor. The roommate had no use of either leg. When the LO (loved one) rang the nurse's station explaining the situation, a "nurse" said, "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" before handing up on our LO. So, our LO called us. We were there within 15 min.
Upon arrival, the gathering at the nurse's station told us to "Get out! It's past visiting hours." (Seriously???) We said, "Well, no, we are not leaving as we are a bit concerned about our LO. They then, threatened to call the police. We stated, "Great! Please call them. We would like to file a complaint about a person on the floor in our LO's room for the last 4 hours." We got to stay in the waiting room next to our LO's room and checked on that room throughout the night. No police were called.
After this, friends and relatives from around the country came every single day for the next 3 weeks and there was always someone there until the day our LO died. In fact, 3 were there on that particular day and at that particular moment. It was not unexpected, even though, the release day was going to be that Sat. Our LO died the Wed. before as the heart gave out due to the fact that our LO had been over medicated with a type of drug meant to ease pain, however, twisted some organs in the body which the immediate family member (former nurse) noted upon picking up the chart at the end of the bed, in the 1st week in hospital and tried to explain what it would do to the LO's body at this dose. Being totally ignored, and, with a rising fever, our LO went in for an emergency surgery to ease the organs, which were becoming infected, because, as predicted by the IFM, the organs twisted and cut off circulation. This is what actually scripted the demise of our LO. None of this was necessary.
After the death, trying to get the documents regarding the care for our LO was next to impossible. There were over 500 pages of minutia and they wanted to charge us $5 a page. We chose not to go to a lawyer, but, we did have a private autopsy as this "hospital" refused to give one. "It's not necessary." Not to them. And, we found out why. Our LO should have never had the surgery, and at best, been fully advised as to the heinous complications.
Suing would not be the answer at that time for a variety of reasons, not the least, the additional stress to the many family members and friends from across the US who had come and gone over the nearly 4 week time period to the end.
A friend's uncle passed while vacationing in Vegas when he went to this hospital for a minor problem, years prior, and that family said there was a nickname for this hospital that goes with the area just outside of Baker and ends with Valley. That's our experience. Would have hoped that there would be a great deal of improvement since then. Seems like a mixed bag.
