  • I was given Dr. Smith's name by my primary care physician last fall for my gallbladder removal. I found him to be unlike any doctor and/or specialist I have seen in the past 20 years. My past experiences with doctors have caused me to feel like I was a game show contestant. After filling out countless, duplicate forms, I would be taken into a sterile vanilla room for a 60-second vital check. A countdown then ensued waiting for the doctor to appear while reading a 2012 copy of People Magazine. It could be 30 minutes, maybe less. Part of the game. Once the doctor comes in, he does a cursory glance of the chart without actually reading it or every making eye contact. It's obvious he has run out the 5-minute clock and needs to move on to the contestant waiting in the room next door. I am escorted to the front, ask for a co-pay and am given another opportunity to return and perhaps obtain answers in the next round. I get another appointment for 2 months in the future. I do not mean to make light of anyone's circumstances regarding their health. However, I have been caught in a circle of referrals for over 2 years now, and am weary from the spinning. Dr. Smith provided me an opportunity to air my concerns, walk through the chain of events that had gotten me there, providing me explanations and directions regarding my health. I regard him so highly, I requested him for a biopsy procedure I was scheduled for last week. He is a superb surgeon as well as a compassionate human being who genuinely cares about his patients. I feel truly fortunate to call him my doctor and would not hesitate to request him again. His staff could run training classes for efficiency and patience. They are all extremely professional yet have a way of expressing kindness and warmth both on the phone and in the office. Obviously, I have become a fan. As long as it doesn't escalate into a groupie...I'm good.
