| - I have been going to this super market for the past few year since it's close to where I lived, recent two years I prefer to drive 20+ minutes to
Mekong Plaza for a better customer service.
The up side is that this is overall a clean, somehow fresh grocery shopping place. You can satisfied your hunt for Asian style cooking recipes. You generally get what you looking for. But in detail coming down to certain specific item, like bamboo steamer, 2 sections hot pot you can get disappointed easily.
The down side is the CUSTOMER SERVICE. There are some nice cashiers work at night shift greet you when you leave, however, some of them can be somehow arrogant. As a Chinese, I feel being "discriminating against" in a Chinese supermarket! One of the female cashier wont even talk to me unless I speak English. She was smiling her heart out for a previous Western customer, then turn to a Poker face for a Chinese student.(I literally avoid her every time I can)
The worst part is you do not feel welcome in this place. They are not so happy to discount you for the discount they claim to provided. At very first I came here, I got blame for not showing my student ID ahead the purchase, so they have to get the discount card from the counter with the permission of their owner.(It makes me feel the owner can not trust his employee that he has to watch their every moves which slow down the entire process )
There was once I went here with my classmate, at the end I prepare to pay for the grocery for about $45 staffs. I asked the cashier if my classmate can use his Student ID to get a discount for the purchase. (yesss, I left mine at car) Then a old man(later discover to be the owner) showed up at the side and responded "No, you cant, you dont bring it then you dont bring it." And since there were people waiting in line, I finished the purchase. But for this experience, we both did feel for a couple dollars, the owner can really do better. It is like wining the money but losing the business.
I would not recommend to any Chinese student, or anyone student at all. You can really well spend the money for a better service.
