  • Pt 2 of my road trip horror story So, just when we thought things couldn't get any worst with Hertz and their lackadaisical way of doing business...my girlfriend and I finally arrive to Pittsburgh only to be rudely awakened (and I do mean literally) to shitty service. When we arrive at the Motel 6, we're trying to confirm our registration with a guy behind bullet proof glass and who's talking to us through a speaker (warning sign #1). We go upstairs and on our way to the room we see a bunch of teenagers running around and the room next to ours has their door just sitting wide open with 2 pairs of dingy looking boots sitting in front of it (seriously, I'm not making this shit up). When we get to what we thought was our NON-SMOKING (very important fact, so remember it) room, which isn't bad, we attempt to go to sleep. The next thing I know, I hear the loud foot steps of the teens running up and down the balcony, loud laughter, and them banging on other people's doors (this was like 12 am btw). Being much too tired from the 4 + hours of driving, we didn't try to yell at the kids or complain to the front desk, we just toughed it out until they calmed down off their alcohol/coke induced high and vowed to switch rooms when we got up in the morning. So, we told the front desk that we wanted to move to another room and the attendant said that he would see what could be done and would contact us if another room became available. Lo and behold, they called the room later on saying they found another room for us to move into. Since my girlfriend was out taking care of her business, I moved our stuff to the other room and immediately noticed a "funny" smell. It didn't really bother me too much at first but after awhile, I couldn't stop sneezing and running at the nose. When my girlfriend got back to the room she immediately identified the smell as that of a "Smoking room". Remember when I said we originally ordered a non-smoking room? Good because evidently Motel 6 didn't! We called the front desk and complained. A different attendant asked why we hadn't complained earlier and I told him because we didn't know it was a smoking room since we had ordered a non-smoking one (and because we thought we were dealing with literate adults). He then decided to inform us that the room we had stayed in before wasn't non-smoking either! He unpleasantly (like I gave a shit) found us another non-smoking room...which was the best we had all weekend considering. If you want a quiet, smoke free, and comfortable room in Pittsburgh, do not, I repeat, DO NOT make reservations at the Motel 6 on Beecham Drive. It maybe cheap but you get far less than what you pay for. This has taught me that comfort does not come cheap! fin
