I will lay out the good and the bad in this review as I think my overall experience could be helpful for others. I originally went in to the office with a Groupon offer for a cleaning. The initial impression was great. Their office was very clean. Their staff was extremely friendly, and they went the extra mile by remembering my name and making me feel welcome. Their equipment was state of the art (as far as a layman like me can tell).
During the cleaning Dr. Porter highlighted cracks on my back 2 molars. He said one was urgent, and the other important but could wait. I made an appointment to come back and have the first one done.
I told my wife of the positive experience and she got a Groupon too. During her cleaning she was told that a lot of the work previously done in her mouth was poorly done and needed to be redone, totaling tens of thousands of dollars. He said that she was going to lose one of her teeth if it wasn't done right then. We buy our own health insurance so this was bad news for us. She decided to get a second opinion. The other dentist told her that the work wasn't the best, but also wasn't the worst, and was not urgent.
Meanwhile I got my '3 sided filling' to help repair the molar. It was instantly sensitive to cold, but I figured that was part of the healing process. But it never went away. After a few months I decided to call and express my concern. The friendly staff scheduled an appointment for me and I came in. I was not surprised however when the doctor was not sympathetic and told me that his work was perfect and that nothing could be done about my sensitive tooth. He then painted himself a savior for what would have happened had he not intervened. He finally made disparaging remarks that I was a 'dentist hopper' since I had gone to another dentist for my next cleaning (I found another coupon deal, again we buy our own insurance and need to watch our expenses).
My overall impression is that the facility is very nice, but that the doctor is more concerned with making a dollar than making your mouth whole. Don't be surprised if you feel pressured when sitting in his chair or if he tells you that repair work is urgent. I would consider a second opinion before stroking the check.
