  • After even more time, I'm finding they just keep surprising me with terrible service. My wife and I have several accounts to divvy up funds so that we can keep track more easily. When I opened up my own little account to separate out my consulting income and business expenses, they never told me that there is a fee for not using the account or carrying a large balance. So, out of the blue there's a fee after a few months. Their answer is "It's our policy." And, this answer is the trap. "Policy" is someone's idea of how to create a rigid, inflexible structure. But, it prevents any kind of adaptability or consideration for the individual context. All of our banking goes through 2 or 3 of the accounts, but it doesn't mean anything if there is a "policy." Such approaches are the pipe dreams of corporate dinosaurs. And, this credit union suffers from the same issues as any antiquated corporation. They really don't care about customers, their circumstances, or the whole idea of providing a service. It's just so much trouble to change banks, but we may have to do so. If we're going to pay stupid fees, we might as well go with a regular bank that is at least more convenient to use. No weekend hours, no off-hour phone help, poor security, pitiful mortgage services, and too many rude employees just gets way too tiresome. There really is very little benefit.
