| - I have long had an aversion to mall salons, but after a couple of meh haircuts at other places, and a recommendation from a friend, I was willing to try. I scheduled an appointment with John I. at Regis at Ross Park, showed up at 9am on a Saturday, and glanced around with slight trepidation.
Then I met John, who put me immediately at ease. "What," he said, "are you thinking of doing with your hair?"
"Just... you know, something." I was spoiled for years by my hairdresser in Columbus, who worked magic, but after more than a few unimpressive outings I was a little scared. Still, to me, the only way to know whether you're going to get on with a hairdresser is to give them free reign; after all, it grows back. Right?
John spent some time evaluating my hair, pointing out the things about my most recent cut that I actually hadn't liked (too blunt and too heavy for my face), and set to work. He spent a little over an hour snipping and razoring and asking how much time I actually spent on my hair in the morning (ten minutes, tops)... and gave me a haircut the likes of which I haven't had since I moved back from Columbus.
I can do nothing to it, or I can take time and put product in, and either way it looks exactly the way I want my hair to look. I love this cut, and am keeping it for now, but I trust that next time I get bored with my hair and want something different, John will produce an equally great look.
I wasn't getting my hair colored on this trip -- too broke -- but he even took the time to discuss possible colors and developers with me so I could go to Sally and do it myself.
I don't know about the other stylists there, and it's definitely kind of crowded, but I know I'll be going there for all future haircuts. Unless John moves salons, in which case I'll follow.
