I came here for a 2nd opinion based on a trusted friends recommendation. Specifically, I came to see Dr. Umakanthan. My 5-stars is with my interaction with him; I'll get to the office staff in a minute.
First, he is very very nice!! and he's really easy to talk with & attentive. I came prepared with prior Dr notes & test results in hand. The opinion he gave fortunately confirmed what I suspected to be true about my initial cardiac consult - there is no medical reason why I can't proceed with surgery. Granted, I have a better understanding of medical terminology than most, but I still get stumped by the jargon from time to time. nothing he said was over my head or technical. He dumbed it down & I really appreciated that. He explained everything to my satisfaction. I really like him.
Now, the office itself is really small. There is limited to no room to move in the lobby & absolutely no privacy when checking in at the front desk. I didn't have to wait long to be called back, maybe 10 minutes; unfortunately the nurse who called me back was not very friendly. I was trapped in my chair by other patients in wheelchairs & couldn't get up to walk to the back quickly or easily. When I managed to cross the threshold to the back the nurse was gone & I was looking around to see where to go. All I saw was a clipboard pointing towards a room & a voice instructing me to go in. As a new patient, a hello or simple courtesy would have been nice, but I didn't get it. She asks me the same questions I just provided written answers for in my demographic & intake forms, and mumbled the entire time. Realizing I wasn't happy with her she asked if I wanted someone else...I should have said yes but I didn't. Her "bedside manner" was pathetic.
This practice has A LOT of offices throughout the City but Dr. Umakanthan only sees patients here & at the Horizon Ridge location. I didn't care for this office setting & probably won't return but I will go to the other location to see him.
