  • My rating for the event would be a 2.5/5, rounded up to 3 stars. Oh man, I really hope they pick a different venue for the next one. This was the inaugural festival--I hope they take the feedback from this event and apply it for the next one! If the variables remain the same for the next one, I wouldn't go again. But if they change up the venue I would consider going again! :) Venue: Arrrgh, to hold a festival in a space with a low ceiling and poor ventilation....in the middle of summer....aaaaaaargh. It was miserable inside! The hot air stayed trapped in the main room. The back room was much better ventilated and actually pretty cool but I didn't even realize there was a back room until after an hour and a half of being miserable in the front room. Parking: There was a parking lot directly across the street from the venue. It was a clusterf*ck! Goodness, there was NO way to loop out of each aisle so everyone's frantically trying to three point turn at the end of each aisle. And once the lot was full, there was no sign to say that the lot was full so more and more people just came on in and ran into the same problem! They should definitely put up a "Lot Full" sign next time! Ended up parking a few streets away. Pastry/Dessert booths: The desserts were wonderful! My favorite two booths were the Nico booth and the Kai booth. The chocolate tart and cookie at the Nico booth were to die for--a clear head above the rest of the chocolate-y desserts at the event. The Kai booth had a wonderful little bowl of chocolate mousse, almond soil, some lemon foam and lemon curd in a little squeezer tube. I managed to try every dessert in the main room, but skipped most of the desserts in the back room because I was starting to feel a bit queasy. Cocktail booths: There were a ton of beer booths, which would have been heaven if I enjoyed beer. However I didn't really enjoy any of the three cocktails I had. After the three, I decided to give up on the drinks and stopped. Perhaps my pallette is not refined enough to enjoy the cocktails at the event? They seemed to all follow the 'bitter' trend. I prefer mine sweet and frou-frou fruity lol. Layout: I don't even know how they could improve on this (aside from being in a bigger venue), but the entrance of the festival was a mess to wade through. The first few booths when we walked in ended up having long lines form perpendicularly into the pathway so it was hard to navigate. Some of the booths were making items to order so the lines didn't go fast at all. This is more directed towards to the cocktail booths...most of the dessert booths had their desserts lined up en masse already. Although maybe they were making it to order so they could mark the drink cards? But maybe they could have the drinks lined up on a back table... All in all, my biggest gripe was the venue/parking. Please either change the venue or choose a different season to hold the next festival :)
