  • We recently moved to the Steel Creek area of Charlotte and were riding around hunting for a place to eat dinner when we passed T-Bones Steakhouse and Saloon on 49 and saw a sign that said all you can eat shrimp. We decided to give it a try. From the moment we pulled in the parking lot it felt all wrong. The long wooden covered walkways to the door were weird and felt SO old school. Then when we get to a door, we enter a long waiting area with weird art and knick knacks everywhere to look at while you wait for a table. This was a Tuesday night and there were very few people there so we walked on through to the main entrance door where we encountered a huge polar bear in a glass case. I guess some people like this sort of decoration... but I think polar bears should not be in glass cases and it makes me sad to see that sort of thing. But, I went on in to the cavernous building to be greeted by an older man that seemed to be one of the managers if not an owner. He was nice enough but felt very seventies to me; like he's had a very colorful, entertaining past in his youth and now leads a comfortable life complete with gold chains and tight fitting jeans. The booths are fixed to the wall, meaning if you're fat, you're gonna be very tightly squeezed to get in or out of the booth. The server seemed used to making her money off the alcohol sales, so since we didn't drink, we rarely saw her. The food was average at best. Fried popcorn shrimp, baked potato, cole slaw... very usual and unfortunately, not super tasty. The best part of my meal was the loaded baked potato and the sweet tea... I was sad when both were gone. Looking around the place you can tell that if you enjoy rowdy drunken (Jimmy Buffet type) fun on a river then it's the spot to be at during the summer months, complete with boat docks, a huge outdoor bar area and tons of space inside to hold lots of drinkers. The place reminded me of an old saloon on Gunsmoke with 2 levels and lots of hallways darting off that you couldn't see where they went. I kept expecting to see a "working" girl leading a man down one of those halls. None of it said "tasty food" or "comfort" to me... the whole place felt like those walls have seen way too much action over the years. The energy of the place was not enjoyable to me; I will not be back.
