This place looks like ever other steak house across the South and mid west. Black napkins brown leather low light. The wine list is just Ok but they offer a pour that is nearly a half bottle which is different. The sides come in full and half sizes which are still big. The stag is friendly and far from pushy. However at the end of the day it is a steak house so it all comes down to one thing the steaks. They have a classic cuts of mostly in aged beef and the classic steak house sides and fish options. I got the NY Strip which was priced in line with comparable spots. None of that really seems 5 star worthy yet, right?
Here why they deserve 5 stars; the steak was thick cut and probably a bit over the Oz stated raw when cut. Very little gristle and tail fat. I ordered mine 'rare' with an extra char and it was cooked absolutely perfectly. It was searing hot on the outside down to a cool raw centre. This is always how I order strip but this is one of the few times that the steak had great flavour and was actually cooked how rare is supposed to be. Despite the many unremarkable things about this place the steak and service are what a steak house are really all about and this laid back place served one of the best steaks I have ever had.
