I recently signed a short term lease (had to relocate pretty quickly for job) and have been grossly disappointed with the amenities here. ost of the appliances (refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc) are very old. The buildings are also very old and I do not believe major renovations have occurred recently.
The walls are not soundproof, so you can hear your neighbors above you walking around (which gets irritating early in the morning) and you can hear people drunkenly coming back late at night (problematic during college semesters due to the proximity to Mill Ave). Pray you're on a top floor or just be prepared to sleep with earplugs throughout the year. My AC unit has worked fine for the most part, but the pipes have frozen over a couple of times and they usually take a day and a half to defrost before it starts working again. This was only problematic during the summer as the temperatures exceed 100 degrees more often than not. They recently started painting the outside of the units for appearances, but upon inquiry no other renovations are planned (in other words, don't be fooled).
They make up for these issues by having a well-staffed maintenance team who respond quickly to tenant issues (however I've been told multiple times to wait until the leasing office re-opens).
I have spoken to other residents with similar complaints who are pretty much just waiting until their lease expires to move out. It's looking like my job will keep me in AZ for a while, so I will be moving out as soon as the lease expires.
