| - These may not be the absolute best burgers in Champaign, but the boost comes from the excellent service. Every single time I go, the servers and cashiers are incredibly kind and welcoming, not just to me but to everyone. I've come in exhausted from long journeys or long days of studying and had the cashier ask how I was doing and check on me later to make sure everything was okay. I've done work in the booths (when its not busy, of course) and listened to podcasts while I ate, so it's an easy place to hang out and relax if you want. The decor is modern and clean, which is always a plus, with nice, soft lighting and it never gets too loud.
The food is pretty delicious. I love both their chicken sandwiches and burgers, and with fries I flip-flop between original and cajun because their so tasty. I always get the Californian for its fresh, crisp taste and everytime I ask for no tomato, they always remember (which is more than I can say for other burger joints). The fact that they have those ultra-soda machines is also pretty nice (as I love ginger ale and almost no restaurants in town have fountain ginger ale).
I like that the store is also more community/high school oriented than college oriented. As a grad student at the university, I get that the majority of businesses make their haul on the income of college students but Meatheads chooses to focus on the other members of the community. They have a scoreboard for local student sports and even have discounts for high school student, which I think goes a long way in creating the vibe of the restaurant. Overall, a delicious and community-oriented restaurant that serves that homey feeling in all the right ways.
