  • Contrary to popular belief, the pirates have never left Treasure Island. They now dress in business suits and instead of targeting ships they target guests who frequent the Strip with outrageous prices. In Treasure Island they have held the Starbucks Mermaid hostage forcing her dearly loved company Starbucks to charge dreaded prices. This metaphorical introduction is my way of saying that the two Treasure Island Starbucks locations charge rediculous prices for beverages. Just like the resort fees, the price of Starbucks coffee keeps going up. The last time that I was in the casino Starbucks, I paid $4.33 for a tall cup of Starbucks coffee. In Starbucks parlance, a tall cup of coffee is a small cup. This small costs $2.22 more than a local Starbucks. At the time of my last visit, the typical menu board with the prices was missing in action. The Las Vegas Strip casinos charge exorbitant prices for a cup of Starbucks because they can. The corporate pirates know that the guest is not going to travel through a labyrinth of walkways to the parking garage and drive to an off Strip location. However, the Treasure Island corporate may want to be advised that there are better coffee establishments across the street where the guest can get a better deal. I will name three from personal experience. Across the pedestrian Bridge in the Venetian, the Paris Baguette serves a quality brew in a unique setting. It is in the St. Mark's Square where performers play to an audience in a faux Venice. Currently they offer a Yelp check-in special where the Coffee is complimentary with the purchase of a pastry. Here is a tip: there is an upstairs lounge overlooking St. Mark's Square. In the opposite direction from Treasure Island, the Fashion Show offers three establishments. There are two Starbucks that are significantly less expensive than Treasure Island. It seems like the corporate pirates have not invaded the Fashion Show because there is an even better coffee place called the Nordstrom E Bar. For a few more coins than the Treasure Island Starbucks, guests can enjoy a delicious Honey Almond Latte. Another point that I need to bring up is that if I am paying an off the charts price for Starbucks coffee that I'd prefer to be in a more elegant or unique location such as the Cosmopolitan, Crystal's, or New York - New York. It was on account of these better deals and Starbucks locations that I passed over this location during the week that my family and I stayed in Treasure Island. Before I go on, it is important to mention that the Treasure Island Starbucks is an interesting business listing which I term a discontinuous business listing. It is two separate Starbuck's that act as a single business that Treasure Island owns and operates. There is Starbuck's #1 that is located directly on the Strip by the Sirens Drive traffic light. This Starbucks is open 24 hours. It is a carry out only location. Starbucks #2 is a large location to the back of the casino at the junction of the Mystere Theater, escalator to the parking lot, and cul de sac walkway to the swimming pool. This location is well lit and offers a sundry of seats. This location is open 6 to midnight. It is here that I spent time in a few occasions that go back before my Yelp days. From my understanding, both locations don't honor the corporate Starbucks rewards program. As of this writing, the corporate pirates have left the complimentary parking at Treasure Island alone. This means that I would gladly park at the easy to navigate Treasure Island parking lot accessible to Spring Mountain Road. If I am staying on the Las Vegas Strip late at night, there is a chance that fatigue would kick in. Just like the late sleepy nights when I parked at Paris and walked to the 24 hour Planet Hollywood Starbucks to perk up, the discontinuous Treasure Island location would serve the same purpose. Late at night the coffee places that I mentioned across the street have closed up. The convenience of being 24 hours is reason to round up my rating to three stars.
