My wife and I started our summer vacation. The following is my review of my experience with American.
Pricing was high for a short trip. $850 from Hartford to Pensacola each person round trip.
Once we arrived in Charlotte our flight was delayed...delayed again...then canceled with no explanation.
I understand the letter of the contract states they *can* treat me this way but it was a horrible way to treat a customer. This isn't canceling a pizza, it's canceling a once a year vacation.
I then went to wait in a very long customer service line so decided to call instead. The gentleman on the phone put me on a flight to Mobile as the last resort so we took it.
I asked for financial compensation of some sort as an act of goodwill and caring about customers. He said I had to go to the website to do it which is poor Touchpoint management on American's part.
I went to the site and of course it didn't help me.
As we hung around the Charlotte airport I saw another flight to Pensacola. I asked to get on that one but it was already overbooked and they were looking to get rid of some folks.
Next, at another gate I heard a clerk apologizing for maintenance issues which reminded me that our first plane our of Hartford was delayed a bit due to maintenance issues!
All in all what a mess. No more AA for me nor when I book my large group flights for work.
I'll also include my first plane was so old it had an ashtray in the bathroom. How long ago could people smoke in the lavatory?
Edit: on my way home, flight delayed so much I'll probably miss my connection. Weather clear across the country.
