  • Before I start this review I feel the need to say that i think yelp should give half options or make the scale a bit wider. I cant give this place 3 stars because they definitely deserve more but I am also rounding up...not sure if it really is worth four. The decor is ok. Nothing special, small place without velvet...thank goodness for that. Great musicians in the place. I am a sucker for a good pianist. So many things to love about the place. The bartenders are so knowledgeable and amazing. Probably the best sales people I have ever encountered. Had they offered me a vacuum cleaner I am very sure I would have purchased it. They were very passionate about the drinks and were good about making sure you liked them. I hate wasting alky but since one of drinks they suggested wasn't flowing well with my tastebuds they offered to make me a new one. The drinks were amazing. Lots of fun ingrediends that were very fresh. The top shelf liquors too. Being prone to hungovers I can appreciate Hendrix versus a Bellows well gin. The one thing that is interesting about VTR was that the gingerbeer and many other juices are homemade. The fruits used for the drinks were fresh and the eggs one can hope were cage free and organic. However, I am not sure I can understand the prices that came with the drinks. I do get it, the owner worked very hard on making the gingerbeer and there was a lot of sweat, tears and hard work involved but I dont think I should have to sell my children to afford VTR. 4 drinks and 76 dollars later (plus 15 tip of course) I am on my way out on the way to the suspicious dark parking lot with the horrible gravel. People love this place and I understand the abundance of stars from my fellow yelpers but I am not judging only the drinks, I am rating the whole experience. ...or maybe I am not cool enough and I dont get it. Yikes!!! In the meantime I am going to stick to my beloved Sunda here in the windy city. They too make drinks with egg whites, but they decorate them better and charge 3 dollars less.
