I enjoy visiting this park every time we come. The scale of the place is truly hard to fathom until you see a teeny tiny person hiking and you realize how huge the red rocks really are!
Last visit, we brought a picnic and we enjoyed relaxing and eating in the cool breeze and warm sun at Willow Springs Picnic Area. A western scrub-jay came by a few times to pick up some cheetos unfortunately left by a previous visitor. I, on the other hand, didn't share my delicious Capriotti's sandwich. The jay let us know about his disappointment!
After a while, we could hear a woodpecker hammering away. Our of respect for my parents who are avid birders, I decided to try to spot it and take a photo of this elusive fowl. Happily, after ten minutes of searching, I found a beautiful and amazingly striking ladder-backed woodpecker industriously making holes in a large tree. It was quite a find and the photos came out awesome!
Whether you come to Red Rock to hike, explore, or just experience life, you'll have photographic memories for the rest of your life. I know I do.
