  • Impressive! This is a public works monument really that was built in the 1930s when there wasn't a war going on. The Great Depression provided cheap labor and helped reduce the cost to build the dam. Everyone made about $6 per day and then had room and board deducted from that. I'm pretty sure there's no way something of this magnitude will ever happen again (in this country) given the chronic government dysfunctionality - state and federal. The design, volume of concrete, size of the structures, amount of manpower and everything else that went into its creation is impressive. But what is almost incomprehensible to me is the fact that there was enough alignment and coordination to get it built. I really can't get my head around that concept actually.
