2 weeks ago on Monday I called down to pre-negotiate a deal and make sure that as long as I had proof of income -- because of self-employment -- then financing wouldn't be a problem. I went in that evening they told me I was approved for financing with $1k down AND DIDN'T WANT TO SEE MY PROOF OF INCOME. After leaving to discuss with my wife, I was called Wednesday and all terms were worked out and I was asked to come down and sign. So I packed up the family and sure enough they had all the paperwork ready to go. I signed everything, and was sent to wait to discuss warranty.
Meanwhile my wife overheard the financing guy, Rhett, yell at the salesman "Get him back out here!" like I was some vagrant. Then in Rhett's best acting skills he says "there was a mistake and since you are self-employed we can't get the financing." To this I told him I had all the proof of income paperwork they should need to see, and they didn't even want to look at it. Then in an underhanded attempt to extract more money he says "with $4700 down we can get the financing done somewhere else."
After being lied to several times through this process, and being shamed in front of my family, there was NO WAY I was going to do business with this company. If they wanted my business, all they had to do was be honest and hold up to their word. I probably would have even considered the $4700 down had it been the terms from the start.
I hope this experience helps people skip the phone call to Courtesy Chevrolet, since it will be a waste of your time or you will be on the losing side of the deal.
