  • I've been OBSESSED with rocknroll from an early age. As a kid, I'd rock out to The Doors or spend an entire weekend meticulously taping Beatles records and back-masking them to find "hidden messages." As a teen, I'd smuggle home Jane's Addiction records with stickers not-so-cleverly concealing Perry Farrell's semi-obsecene album art, and in college, I bonded with the guys in my class over Mike Patton's burgeoning genius and insanely eclectic career, and Cleveland's own Cheetah Chrome. In my humble opinion, music is the most creative art form on Earth, and I'm inherently against ranking it or giving it prizes, so I think the concept of a "Rock Hall of Fame" is kind of strange. Go watch Iggy Pop speak on behalf The Stooges during their induction ceremony...he explains it better than I could. Even so, there's something magical about a giant museum devoted solely to showcasing the greats of rock n' roll. The first few times I visited this Cleveland staple pre-dated my owning a cell phone, internet, or social media accounts, and I was definitely caught up in the swooning sexiness of all that rocknroll lore. More recently, I booked a weekend in Cleveland to celebrate my brother's birthday, capping off an excellent concert at the Agora with a tour of the Rock Hall to keep the momentum going. He marveled over funny candid photos of the Sex Pistols, I reminisced about afternoons with Grandma at the Elvis display, and we both got a kick out of Michael Jackson's glove. The admission is a bit steep, but this museum is definitely a destination to put on your "must-see" list if you're a fan of classic rock (and the last time I was there, pop, R&B, Motown, and rap too). This museum is also a pretty great place to take the kids, but if yours are under 10 or so, you may want to save the trip until they're a bit older and can appreciate the experience more. As other reviewers mentioned, to save money and frustration, skip the cafe, because it's nothing special, but DO make sure you have at least 3-4 hours to spend here, especially if you've never checked it out before. If you're a music fan, you'll want to take your time savoring all the artifacts and trivia tidbits from the greats.
