| - This was probably one of my top 5 favorite things during my stay in Las Vegas.
From our hotel (Palazzo), we conveniently rented a car and drop the fairly short ride to the Hoover Dam (about 45 minutes).
We got there, drove across it once, then drove back and parked. Parking was $7.
I really wanted to do the full Dam Tour (for $30). However, when we got there around 11:15, the lady at the desk told us the next available Dam Tour wouldn't be until 1:30pm. I really wasn't planning on waiting around for 2 hours. We had things to do after all.
I was a bit confused, because I thought even the full tours were ongoing. We found out later that there were plenty of other people that weren't pushed off until 2 hours later... I was a bit upset.
Step 1 - everyone gets to watch a short Dam movie. It was interesting.
Step 2 - wait in line. We had to wait for 2 more tours to clear the elevator shafts before we were allowed on. This isn't too bad, but it would've been nice if someone had told us why we were standing there waiting. We were just left to wait and were confused why the people that were in the movie with us and right in front of us in line got in on the earlier tour. But whatever...
Step 3 - you go down... FAR in the elevator. I forget how many stories, but it was a lot!
Step 4 - you get to see the actual power plant. That was cool
Step 5 - make a trip to the visitor center and the observation deck. Make sure you go up to the Observation Deck, because that has a fantastic view.
I'm giving the tour 4 stars, just because it's the Hoover Dam. The tour guide was good, but the organization of the whole thing could use a little refresher.
