While a fan of most any Asian food, and especially noodles, I'd actually never had Pho before last Friday when I stopped in with a friend for a late lunch. I'd heard rave reviews from a few friends and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! How could I have missed this place until now?
I'd be surprised by the "bland" comments if I didn't know that the average person generally eats food that is overloaded with salt. I ordered the egg noodle wanton soup with roast pork slices. I found the broth to be a little salty, but with roast garlic and some green onions it was definitely enjoyable. I added a dash of Hoisin sauce for a bit of sweet flavor, and found it balanced the overall flavor well. I was also pleased that the dish was heavier on noodles than the wantons or pork slices - I prefer to eat less meat-centric dishes and I found the amount of everything to be perfect for me.
Both of our dishes were served piping hot, so we sipped the broth to start with. Mmm. My pork was sliced thin and was tender without any large fatty bits. The wantons were quite tasty, but I am a sucker for dumplings of almost any kind. Same with the tasty and sweet Thai iced tea, which I couldn't resist ordering. I found myself completely satisfied with leftovers for later. Same for my friend, who was also pleased with the vegetarian options on the menu.
Service was just fine; our orders were taken right away and we had our food in no time. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and checked in with us here and there, but not too much since we had all we needed. I don't mind that the music was quiet and the space somewhat sparse - ambiance really doesn't matter to me when the food is good. The prices were great. We'll definitely be back. In fact, only three days later and I'm seriously craving more!
