| - We have become huge fans of taking the Metro whenever we go downtown for any event. It seems crazy not to. Why fight traffic, pay $20 to park and have to walk to the event when you can park for free and for a few bucks get delivered almost to the door of the event. Enhancing that idea lately is to find unique eating places along the way, hop off the Metro and have breakfast, brunch or dinner, then hop back on toward downtown.
When Yelping for such a place I ran across Maizie's. I didn't have time to read any reviews but I went to their website and liked what I saw. Actually I first picked Lux, but because their website is so snobby and pretentious it was impossible to read anything about it on my iPad so I basically said screw them.
So we hopped off the train and walked in to the front door of this wonderfully non-pretentious Maizie's. The lady who greeted us probably ranked as the absolute most warm, gracious and friendly person I've ever been greeted by in a restaurant. Being a Sunday morning they were moderately packed but she found a perfect table for us immediately. If good service is important to you, you can stop reading this review right now because I am giving all of my 100 points to phenomenally great service by every employee we came into contact with, which was essentially everyone because they know the true meaning of teamwork and instead of "it's not my table" every staffer at some point made sure we were well taken care of. I went away with the gut feeling that everyone on their staff bounces out of bed in the morning saying "Good morning world, what a great day to be alive, I love life, I love people and I love my job". At least that's the sparkling attitude they convey. And I would be remiss by not bringing attention to how polite they are.
Oh yeah, the food. This is NOT your run-of-the mill Dennys-style restaurant. The menu selection is unique and varied and made me want to try everything. I opted for the turkey/avocado/bacon benedict (pictured) which was excellent. A little oddly they ask how you would like your eggs prepared ... I thought what makes it a benedict is the poached egg ... but having a choice is not a bad thing.
The food prices are about the same as let's say Denny's but obviously the quality is much better. They have a full bar and their Bloody Mary's are delicious. The ambience both indoors and in the large outdoor patio is relaxed, comfortable and homey.
Maizie's will now be a regular mid-way stop for Metro trips downtown. They have earned a solid 5-stars.
