| - This was my first time visiting a psychiatrist. When I explained my experience to my sister in law, she said it was NOT acceptable for a psychiatrist to do what she did. I came in seeking help for anxiety and depression. The visit was so cold, like she didn't even listen to anything I was saying. There is a form she gives that says "check any of the following if it was out of the norm for you to feel...." or something along those lines. So I checked a few things off, and she said I probably didn't understand the question. What?! Then she wrote on a piece of paper different ailment type things: some people have this type of depression, some have this type, and so on. Then she asked which one I think I have? I don't have a medical degree, that's why I'm here, I want you to help me determine what is going on. And the treatment plan? "There are mood stabilizers and anti-depressants. Here's what each one does. Which do you think you want or need?" Again, seriously? I have NO IDEA which one I want or which one I need, that's why I'm here yet again. She then proceeded to say "if you were to ask me, I would put you on mood stabilizers" so literally a 10 minute office visit turned into her having me diagnose myself and her suggesting pills. So if you want pills she is oh so willing to prescribe after 10 minutes of talking to you. That's either a really f$&^ing good doctor or a shitty one who shouldn't be practicing.
Also the front desk lady asked how far along I am, I'm not pregnant, I'm 5'4" and 120 pounds, not pregnant.
