Firstly, I would like to say that the bartenders are attentive and engaging. The service is pretty decent even when it's packed. The upstairs is a bit of a hidden gem sometimes, if it's super busy downstairs you might luck out and have the upstairs to yourself! Drinks are well priced and there is a great beer selection.
Now for the negative: The bathrooms are a joke, even for dive bar standards and it forever smells of urine. The clients are hit or miss. Lots of blue collar folks after work, then come the people in their mid 20s-30s who do not have the mental capacity to handle themselves while drinking. There is one patron in particular who is a regular and will ruin anyone in the vicinity's good time. He has glasses and tattooed hands, always yelling obscenities and making people generally uncomfortable. He is short and always wears a leather jacket and drinks strongbow cider. He is always "wanting to punch that f*cker staring at me". If you see him, do yourself a favor and go to another bar. If I owned 1899 I would seriously consider banning that douche.
