  • We have been using Crown Point for several years now and since it traded hands two years ago from that wonderful couple to just the current owner, our costs have gone up exponentially and our service has dropped. Our first year, we got an estimate of $185 to clean up the weeds, blow the yard, clean up dog droppings, and spray. Very reasonable and the service was top notch. The second year, we just needed a spray so it was only about $100 (I maintain that the simple blow out and spray was $68; the owner says I misunderstood, that he had my previous receipts in hand, and that it was $120). This year, I called to schedule service again and spoke with the owner via text. I asked him twice what the going rate was, expecting it to be around the $100 price point. He ignored all of my texts and sent a technician anyway. AFTER the technician arrived on site, I asked again what the cost would be so I would know how to make out the check. The technician did not know and called the owner. The owner called me and informed me that costs went up to $160 for just a blow and weed spray. I advised that I simply didn't have room for this in the budget and was met with a barrage of insults from the owner that I was costing him money and our costs last year were $115 so this was not a huge jump (Even if this were true, $160 is a lot more than a 30% increase over about $100). After he continued to insult me, yelled at me, and attacked me for several minutes, including telling me that I never sent him texts (have proof of that), I never once asked for cost (have proof of that too), that it was me who was costing him business, that this whole situation was my fault, I had to hand the phone off to my husband who repeatedly told the owner that he was conducting business poorly. Eventually, I guess the owner got desperate enough for our business that he finally calmed down and my husband was able to work out an arrangement with him to get service (one that involved several post-dated checks). Now, I am NOT saying the SERVICE is horrible. Quite the contrary. The products used are fantastic and top notch, and the technicians have all been very friendly and personable. The weeds have always been sprayed and the yard always gets blown out. It's the owner who sends his techs out blind, has poor customer service, and does not seem interested in continuing his business relationships. According to him, the miscommunication was all my fault. The lack of customer service from the owner is appalling on a good day. Frankly, we would discourage anyone from using Crown Point in the future because if he chooses to do business where he yells at, insults, and swears at customers, telling us that it's our responsibility to make up his 37% annual increase by nearly doubling the cost of service and not telling you that until the tech is on site, he's not creating a sustainable business model. There are plenty of other landscapers out there who are much more reasonable who don't scream at and insult their customers to try to save the business. And we will be using someone else in the future.
