Oh man, what a city Vegas is. After the experience my friend had with lyft I'm questioning whether or not they make their drivers go through any kind of mental health screening or if they do any drug testing.
My friend was recently in a bad car accident due to a drunk driver and has had to have several surgeries but because of the damage to her car it was at the shop getting repaired. The day she was able to pick it up I was unable to bring her because I had errands to run. She used her Lyft app to request a ride. Luis is the driver that is dispatched to her. As soon as her Lyft arrives I follow them out of the subdivision. About 1500 feet ahead there's a roundabout. Instead of yielding to the traffic that was already in the roundabout, Luis decides to enter it. Almost causing an accident because 2 cars were already in it. My friend is almost hit on the left side but he sped up and avoided getting hit. Meanwhile the two cars almost get in an accident because the first one has to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting Luis (lyft driver) and the second car behind the first almost rear ends the first car. My friend then yells at Luis asking him, "What do you think you're doing? Don't you know how to drive and enter a roundabout?" She's upset because of her prior accident and this driver almost gets her into another one. I'm at the yield sign so I see everything happen. After the 2 cars that almost wreaked exit the roundabout I enter it and see my friend jump out of the Lyft. Apparently after she asked Luis what he was doing and if he knew how to drive, he became verbally abusive towards her and starts screaming and swearing at her. Telling her to shut the fuck up and if she didn't like to get the fuck out. So she asks him to pull over. He doesn't, she then jumps out of the car because they hadn't made it completely out of the Vistas community so he wasn't going fast enough to where it'd be impossible to exit. He had no idea that I'd witnessed the whole thing and was circling back around to follow them out. Because she was scared by both his driving and abusive and aggressive behavior she had to jump out of his car in 110 degree weather. She had started to walk back to the house in tears but I saw her on the sidewalk so I stopped my car and had her get in. Luis had already sped off at this point engaging in more reckless driving by not coming to a complete stop at the stop sign before turning into the road that leads to the 215.
We spend about 30 min on hold with lyft while trying to report the incident only to not be helped at all when we're finally connected to a person. My friend was told there'd be no refund.
We will now be filing a police report about the reckless driving and verbally abusive Luis. When a passenger asks a driver to stop because his aggressive behavior is makeup my her uncomfortable, they need to stop! He wasn't in an area where he would have been unable to stop either. He could have but refused to.
What's the deal Lyft? Don't you care about the safety of your passengers? Shouldn't they be able to ride without being in fear of getting cussed out or into major accidents?
You need to remedy this situation and perhaps look into this Luis and make sure he doesn't have a history with police or drugs, or any mental illnesses. He had no reason to drive the way he was and no reason to scream and terrorize my friend.
Note: Nathan at the Lyft office at the 7255 S Tenaya Way was amazing helping me with this situation so don't think my issues with Lyft extend to the actual office location. More so the drivers and the service you receive whilst trying to call or get them to respond to an email.
