| - Went there the other evening for happy hour with a friend. I go to Luci's, which is in The Orchard and owned by the same owners, all the time for coffee with friends, but decided to try Pomelo's for happy hour since I've never done so prior. We sat at the bar. Jeremy was our bartender/server. I did a taste testing of the red wine on their happy hour menu: the Monttpelier Pinor Noir and the Los Cardos Cab. UGHHH! My friend had the Drumheller chardonnay also off the happy hour menu. UGHHH!! Since I like manhattans, I decided to have that instead. I was told the whiskey used, albeit in a manhattan is not on the happy hour menu and I would have been charged more, was "top shelf," and I was led to believe was a decent one. Uhmmm. My head said NO!! The next day I had a raging headache, a sure sign of cheap booze. How many manhattans did I have? Two. Not anything out of the ordinary.
For food we had the calamari and the spinach dip appetizers from the happy hour menu. Both were good. No complaints here.
I would LOVE to LOVE this place since it's locally owned and somewhat close to where I live. The drinks? I'd have to order off the regular menu if I was going to have decent wine or drinks. Does that make it happy hour friendly? Not for me, but I'd go here all the same. Jeremy is a great bartender, very professional, accommodating, and friendly. A truly great addition to this establishment.
