| - My only experience with Cornish Pasty Co. stems from dining at their Mesa location last summer. Despite a few service quips, I was pretty impressed. This particular location, situated on Monroe Street, is a bit different in setup, but still excellent in regards to food quality.
First off, be aware that you'll need to seat yourself. Mesa's Cornish location has a hostess. This might result in some confusion. There are three levels, but I've only eaten in the basement by choice. The area is filled with multiple leather/mobster booths and a seedy "dive" feel. Ideally, it's where I would hang out if I wanted to hide from the rest of the world and just eat pasties and play board games all night.
It's really hard to recommend pasties here, because everything we've ordered is excellent quality. It really boils down to personal preference. I've never been a big meat/potatoes guy, so I'm more drawn to their Italian-styled pasties, while my girlfriend always defaults to their Pilgrim due to her love of traditional Thanksgiving food. There are no disappointments to be found here, which is the result of ingredients that are solid quality and a shortcrust that packs flavor and fluffy texture.
For dessert, despite the constant Yelp recommendations for the banoffee pie, we struggle at passing up their chocolate bread and butter pudding. The booze inclusion is subtle and satisfying. It's warm interior with a crispy outer-shell just makes it irresistible, but eventually we'll cave and try something else.
Cool environment, great food, and reasonable prices for what you receive. How can you not Cornish give it a strong recommendation?
