  • I wanted to love this place; I mean that. We stopped in on the way to the Benedum Theater. It's a short walk away. First of all, it's one of "those" places in which the place is empty and you're asked if you have a reservation. Ok, that's not the problem. The problem is when they hesitate (long pregnant pause hesitate) and say "I'll see what we can do". Really? The place is virtually empty. Get off your high horse (and, furthermore, it remains nearly empty the entire hour or more we're there). Our host points out 3 tables for which we have a choice. Ok. Fine. The place has nice enough ambiance. The menu is confusing. The restaurant seems to have an identity problem. If you're a Tapas place, then just say so. We notice the offerings and prices and are thinking to ourselves, "I bet this is a Tapas place". We ask our server and get a round-a-bout answer that yes, we can share items. Ok. The problem with this is that there really aren't all that many vegetable items listed. I really don't want a meal of all protein. And mac-n-cheese does not count as a veggie. We end up ordering a concoction of Caesar salad (which was quite tasty) for our vegetable. (Hey, management! Brussel sprouts, asparagus, green beans would have been nice.) Then there was some confusion about what we ordered. We ordered duck which had marrow listed with it, fish tacos, and fried chips with three different spreads. When I asked what marrow was when ordering the duck, our server thought I wanted to order the marrow dish, as well. He was nice enough to serve it anyway and deduct it from our bill. That was generous of him. And, the marrow (of which I had never had), was quite good. The duck was ok, as were the fish tacos, but not spectacular. I knew the bill would be high even minus the marrow being deducted anytime you order dishes separately and we did have 4 glasses of wine between us. I'm not so aggravated by the price as much as the execution and offerings were not really all that worthy of that price. Bottom line, the wine selection was good, the food was good and presentation was above par, the ambiance was relaxing but a notch above casual, and they need more vegetable selections.
