| - Just went there yesterday. I'll start with the good stuff:
The water circuit is great. The salt water pool, the steam room, the sauna, the other two pools... not very clearly marked which is which (was a bit lost at first and almost took a "cold plunge" in a "104 degree" pool. Nevertheless - great facilities. Awesome roomy leather loungers.
My aromatherapy massage was awesome. The RMT - Jill - was super-attentive, asked questions and even spent a few minutes after the massage, giving me some advice on how to deal with some of the knots in my back and legs. Oh - and she brought me a fresh, dry robe (mine was wet after spending the time in water therapy... very nice touch!)
The good stuff pretty much ends here.
When I arrived, I got very put off right at the front desk. It turned out that with a gift certificate they do not give an RMT receipt. Okay, then can I get another treatment? A body bake? The front desk girl agreed, found a time slot for me, we chose what kind of masks/smells I'd prefer... only to tell me later that this is considered a 24-hour cancellation and there would be a fee attached. Um, no thank you. And seriously - you see this as cancellation? I am still there, still spending money! She suggested doing half and half (massage and body bake). For the same price? No. Um, no thank you.
Very disappointing, especially after going thru the pleasant booking and choosing the smell/type of grease for the body bake.
And then the gift certificate wasn't working.
And then - after THOROUGH pressure from my friend, they said that yes, they can give me an RMT receipt, but they will have to write on it that it was paid for with a gift receipt. Why couldn't they have offered it right away and let me deal with my insurance company??? Any receipt is better than no receipt.
The front desk girl seemed upset (it wasn't her fault after all - she constantly called her manager who told her that no, I cannot get another service and no, I cannot get a receipt and no... no... no) - she threw in a couple of free drinks to make up for the aggravation.
Oh yes, unlike in other spas I've been to, they're money pincers. Water, regular tea, everything costs money. At my favourite luxury spa in Toronto, they have hot tea and apples and water with lemons for free (and their massages are cheaper!!!). Not a nice feeling. It's 140 for an hour massage - and you want to charge me for a cup of tea?
The premises are underground, feels a bit dark and oppressive.
The "women-only" has it's unpleasant side: nude customers. As in completely nude. I couldn't suppress the vision of pubic hair floating in the pool towards me. Ugh.
The showers are disgusting - the stalls are not separated at the floor, so the soapy shower water from other stalls runs over your feet. That is absolutely disgusting.
The lockers are extremely tiny (especially with all the winter coats you have to pack away). The robe and towels awaiting us inside the lockers were damp and cold. I guess they didn't bother taking the time to thoroughly dry them.
The cleaning staff are in your face, entering the steam rooms, locker rooms, wiping something right in front of you when you dry your hair, taking your robe away while you stand right next to your lounger... And try finding you towel and robe on the hooks - if they are all exactly the same! And it's not like the spa was overcrowded and there were people lining up, waiting for a free spot. There were more loungers than people.
And I still have to see my RMT receipt. I was promised they will mail it to me. I am not holding my breath,
I am not going back.
