  • Played the Sweetbriar (as opposed to Legacy) course at Sweetbriar Golf Club. The course is pretty flat, fairly forgiving, and wide-open with few sand bunkers. There is, however, quite a bit of water, including a handful of "hidden creeks" crossing the fairways that can easily take your ball if you are not aware of them. Many holes also have large patches of tall fescue that (while, by local rule, afford you a free drop) can take away a few more balls. Several large trees on the course offer an interesting challenge with their leaves and branches often directly in what might be your ideal ball flight path to the hole. Some pluses: Did not have any problems with pacing. Each golf cart has a ball and club head cleaner. The clubhouse is pretty nice, though the food options are average. On the downside, for a day in the low 90 degrees, I definitely wish water was available out on the course or at least the drink cart come by more frequently. Overall, the course itself probably merits a high two stars, bumped up to three by some of the golf club's amenities.
