  • Warning, terrible lack of patient protocol; lack of patient comfort; total lack of cleanliness of patient after colonoscopy procedure. (1) Nurses do not use topical anesthesia before poking patient's hand/arms for IV insertion. Why? Such a small piece of gauze with topical numbing solution would make IV insertion more comfortable for patient. Nurse missed first insertion, needle went in too deep. Yes, it hurt. Lucky for her second try was successful. (2) While laying on the operating bed, a man walks in and begins to fiddle with equipment. He did not bother to introduce himself. I thought he was the doctor in charge of the colonoscopy procedure. I wanted to tell him that I did not think the cleansing prep the night before worked as well as it should, although I followed the instructions in full. I said, "Oh, excuse me..." He replied, "Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok". I got concerned that he was having a bad time with the equipment and didn't want to talk. I quickly shut up thinking that I did not want to upset him any more before he operated on me. A few minutes later Dr. Sood walks in. Before I could talk to him, the man walks up to me and says, "Ok, I'm going to put you to sleep." I then figured him out...he was the anesthesiologist. WHY THE HECK DIDN'T HE EASE MY ANXIETY WHEN HE FIRST WALKED IN BY INTRODUCING HIMSELF TO ME BEFORE HE STARTS TO FIDDLE WITH EQUIPMENT. AND HIS "OK, OK, OK..." BIT REALLY PISSED ME OFF, BUT I WENT UNDER. (3) I was then awakened by a nurse and told to get up now and that it was time to get dressed. She asked me if I needed help getting off the bed. I said that I think I could manage on my own. She goes out and continues "talking story" with another nurse. I get out of bed, and then see that the bed was covered with liquid poop discharge. I WAS LAYING ON POOP. I WAS TOLD TO GET DRESSED??? WITH POOP ON MY BUTT??? I WAS NOT GIVEN ANY WIPES TO CLEAN MYSELF OFF. I scrounged about looking at what I could use. I saw a container that had wipes on the counter in the room, so I used those wipes to clean myself off. Nurse must have either seen me in the closed circuit monitor for the room, so she comes in with a box of wipes and tells me that the ones I am using are for wiping down the bed and equipment. I am still groggy and didn't want to start my complaint and dissatisfaction with their services. I took the wipes she handed to me and finished my cleaning. I ask all of you....what about many other elderly and super-senior patients, patients who may have alzheimer's or old-age dementia? Do they walk out with dried up poop on their butts? How many times do they get poked before a suitable vein is found for IV? How much discomfort must they go through and forget to voice their opinion about the negative and shameful way they were treated. Why no topical numbing solution is used? Expense? Are owners so concerned about the bottom line and profit that they cannot afford to supply patients with numbing gauze? My suggestion, go elsewhere. One deserves to be treated with dignity. One deserves not to walk out with dried up poop on their butts. We put food on their table, but we (patients) are treated so poorly at Henderson Surgery Center.
