Got to visit for the first time last year when my friend Tory H and I were checking out the bars in the area. They happened to have an interesting variety show kind of thing happening at the time and we got to check out some interesting bands, a magician, and some down-home burlesque. It's tiny, grungy, worn-in and probably the most "real" bar I've been to in Vegas. No pre-fab facade here--it's a real dive. And how can you not love a bar that has something called "Ass Juice" on the menu? Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I was in Vegas again and a few friends and I decided to stop by for a drink. There wasn't a show going on so it was pretty empty and quiet, but that afforded me the opportunity to check out their awesome vintage juke box, which was chock-full of all kinds of unusual suspects in punk and rock. The only other time I saw Cock Sparrer in a juke box was at Fern's in Long Beach, and even they upgraded their juke box to one of those fancy internet ones that no longer has Cock Sparrer--I was pretty impressed. Anyhoo, we couldn't stick around too long but we played some songs, had a Lunatic Lemonade (bottled stuff that was really sweet and had a high ABV) and just marveled at the decor. This will probably continue to be a regular stop for me in Vegas from now on.
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Probably the most real bar in the most fake city on Earth.
