*Yelp Hot-Sheet Advertising Alert*
Yuppers, The Skeptical Chymist got on the Yelp advertising hot-sheet, but hey, that's cool, they paid for it, they deserve it.
They're on Groupon too, so check there for current specials.
BACKGROUND
So, after hiking with Black Status Yelp Elite Brett B, he suggested The Skeptical Chymist for drinks and grub. Who am I to refuse drinks and grub, so I said, "Hell YA!"
THE SKEPTICAL CHYMIST
In times gone by often a pharmacy or grocery would double as a pub.
Customers would tend to take a Guinness or whiskey to relieve their flagging spirits as they came to purchase their provisions.
The name Skeptical Chymist came from a book written by Robert Boyle, a gentleman born in Cork, Ireland in 1627.
The book became the cornerstone of modern day chemistry, and changed the thinking at the time of many apothecarists "chymists."
Continuing the apothecary theme, Skeptical Chymist is host to many apothecary items dating back through the centuries. The majority of these items have been purchased in Ireland.
As well as providing the people of Scottsdale a glimpse of Ireland, you can sample the delights of Irish cuisine and sip on many fine Irish beverages.
The Skeptical Chymist is owned by Trevor Kingston, who moved to the United States in 1996 thanks to a green card lottery, and opened the restaurant 12 years ago.
When the Airpark-area eatery celebrated its 10-year anniversary, Kingston sent a couple on an all-expenses-paid trip to Ireland.
Skeptical Chymist is Kingston's second restaurant; he also owns Fibber Magees in Chandler.
Kingston's No. 1 priority is food, something the staff constantly evolves and tweaks. The menu emphasizes modern Irish food.
Skeptical Chymist offers quality products at a fair price. It goes beyond the standard restaurant or bar.
THE STORY & SERVICE EXPERIENCE
The Skeptical Chymist is in a strip mall called Sonora Village, off of Pima Road, in North Scottsdale, Arizona.
It looks like a wannabe true Irish Pub, but with Seattle Seahawks memorabilia: Neither are my cup-o-tea, and I don't remember the Irish in Ireland giving a damn about American Football, especially not the Seattle Seahawks in particular, but the owner, Trevor Kingston is an exception.
The place was pretty empty for a Sunday afternoon, so we got to pick where we sat, which was at the front of the class, er, I mean, bar.
Neither of us had been there before, so we picked the bartender's brain about the drink menu.
I tried the Berry Bourbon Smash, which I didn't like at all, so I made Brett B drink mine and got a Blue Moon with orange juice, which I loved.
Next we tackled the menu. I'm pretty sure we ordered one of everything. My favorite was the nachos with pulled pork on top. YUMMY!
The place started getting busier a little later, and I think we closed the place down.
I'm pretty sure we went throughout few shifts of bartenders too. All were ridiculously nice, helpful, and fun.
CONCLUSION
You know how sometimes you fall in love with the vibe of a place? Well, this place I didn't fall in love with, but I don't have anything negative to say either.
It's a solid strip mall North Scottsdale Irish pub.
It's nice here. I'd come back.
