| - I rarely write about my bar hopping adventures since there is normally not too much to say-- I usually grab a drink and move onto the next spot-- but Gilley's definitely left quite the impression. Located off the strip in Treasure Island, Gilley's is the place to be for those who enjoy country music. It has that cowboy saloon ambiance that I don't experience too often where I come from.
When the girls and I came in, this bar was packed!! There was even some filming in progress of some country/western/line dancing. I'm not too knowledgable in this field, but it was definitely impressive watching the professionals perform.
So the reason why my friends wanted to take me here was so that they can see me ride on the MECHANICAL BULL. While we were hanging around the bar, it was so funny that this guy comes by and asks me if I want to ride the bull and that he would pay for it ($10). Not only that, but he buys all of us shots of Fireball to try and convince me with liquid courage. I would have done it either way, but I like being convinced with freebies!
I've been on a mechanical bull before but the place I went to was empty, this place was packed. Not only that but some of the guys here do rodeo professionally. I can't compete with that... Well good thing for me, the crowd was cheering me on. I was reassured that I didn't have to do it well. According to this group of girls near us, it was just hotter watching a girl do it...
1 minute and 16 seconds -- good enough. The crowd was too sweet to be cheering for me. One guy was even like, "I've never seen that before," since towards the end I just grabbed on to the bull's neck to resist falling off. He hasn't seen it before probably because it's not a real rodeo move. I was just trying to hang on for my dear life.
Despite light bruising and my left shoulder feeling some pain from falling off the mechanical bull, my friends and I had a blast. I love the positive vibes and how welcoming and supportive everyone was. Gilley's is a solid spot and I recommend checking it out even if it's out of your comfort zone.
