| - I want to preface my review by saying that I've been eating my mom's banh mi for the last 28 years and her's will always be my favorite. However, Lucy's has been my favorite banh mi (you can buy) in Pittsburgh thus far.
Lucy's stand is directly to the left of Bar Marco if you're looking straight at it and it's to the right of the parking lot for Wing Fat Hong grocery store. She has a few picnic benches for you to enjoy the sandwiches there or you can also take them to go. If you do decide to eat them there, I don't think she has many options for drinks. On my visit, she only had coke so if that is too limited for you, come prepared with your own drinks.
The meat is grilled on-site, which I got pork with mine. I'm not entirely sure what other proteins she offers though. The sandwiches were topped with pickled carrots, pickled red onions, fresh cucumber, fresh jalapeƱo, and fresh cilantro. In addition, she puts on a sweet teriyaki-like sauce all over, making each bite an explosion of flavor. French baguettes are used to keep all the ingredients together and although the bread tasted fresh, I feel they could have been enhanced with a light toasting. One of these delicious sandwiches will cost you $7 cash.
Lucy does not operate her stand all year long so you'll most likely have to catch her in the summertime.
