| - I was referred to them through urgent care because the doctor there couldn't 100% accurately tell if my wrist was broken so he gave me a splint and a copy of my xray and sent me to see the orthopedic guy here to doublecheck my xray and examine my arm.
I was in the office maybe 10 minutes, where the doctor took a look at my arm, at the xray i provided and told me yes my wrist was broken but he didnt think i should cast it because the splint should work just fine with less hassle on my part. He then told me to come see him again in 6 weeks to reevaluate. When i came back he took another round of xrays and told me it was healing just fine and that i could start takign the splint off to exercise my arm for short periods and gradually leave it off longer.
3 - 4 weeks later i got a bill in the mail from them for $1,000, $900 for a "balance forward" and $100 for my x-ray. I called my insurance and they said they would pay for the x-ray but that they will apply the $900 to my deductible because it was for "post-op care". When I called the doctor asking what this charge was for they stated that it was because i had a broken wrist.
I have never been charged for a diagnosis, i could understand if i received treatment, or had to have tests done but i literally received nothing other than a 5-10 minute discussion with a doctor for this $900. They then told me that had i gotten a cast, or even a splint from them that i would have been charged additional fees...
When i continued questioning them they said there was nothign they could do, that they had to charge me but i was not charged for my second visit because it was included in the fee. I asked if the diagnosis had been a wrist sprain how much would i have been charged and they said it would have been just for an office visit, which runs $50 - $250 depending on what is done. My insurance would have totally covered that since it is included with my copay...but because i received the exact same service but with a different diagnosis i got charged the copay plus $900...and they acted like this was normal and couldnt understand my frustration!!!
This is like going to a restaurant telling them I am hungry, bringing in my own water bottle, then proceeding to leave without ordering anything and them charging me for a meal plus a drink!
The doctor was very nice but unless you have money to spend for nothing look elsewhere, there are other better orthopedic places in town and some good sports medicine doctors that will treat you better and charge an actual fair price for services rendered!
